Monitoring post 20/02/2012
By Monday 5th March I should have a rough cut of my products
By Monday 19th March my products should be completed
From Monday 19th - Friday 30th March I will be working on my 7 evaluation questions.
Then my completed portfolio should be submitted for formal marking on Monday 16th April. I should use the Easter break to make any minor amendments to my work.
In order to meet these deadlines I will take my photographs of my chosen models, decide on fonts for my magazine and font sizes i will use thought my magazine. I will then focus on drawing all of my ideas together for my final product.
I will also improve on my previous work by adding my missing prelim documents (front cover image and write up). create a path on my textual analysis prezi. I will also create another textual analysis to try and achieve higher marks throughout my work. I will also need to create a post discussing who would publish my magazine and if it would be successful. I also need to clearly state my target audience by creating an audience profile.

Writing style: I have chosen an informal writing style as i feel that this will make the reader more interested and drown into the article as they would be directly addressed. although
my writing style will be informal i have decided to refrain from using slang terms or

Flat plan Research
During my research i gained a variety of feed back about my flat plans. After explaining my product and what i aimed to archive. There was a few key points such as what fonts would i be using and sizes. I then looked into similar products and the fonts and sizes they used, all of the products i looked into used similar basic large fonts, to help them stand out and be easily read.
I also gained feedback on the layout of my contents page that it is "unique", "attractive" and "easy to read" this made me think that having a unique contents would look more attractive to the reader, but still easily readable and informative.
Another piece of feed back i gained whilst doing my research was "attractive colour scheme and relevant to target audience" this made me think about other colours that would also appeal to my target audience, to make my magazine look more attractive and try to avoid looking too basic with only two colours. (witch was my original idea)
I received a few points of feed back about my double page spread, "using multiple shots of the artist is interesting and appeals to the audience" I chose this idea by looking at similar products and selecting witch

Image anaylsis and Composition
The character on the right hand side, has an eye line which is in the top thirds this gives him dominance over the other members of the band suggesting he is the lead singer. the sunglasses prevent the artists from having any direct address with the audience, giving them a sense of mystery.
The matching costume choice shows that all the people in the image are members of the band. The leather jackets suggest the rock genre of music.
The sunglasses used give the artists a sense of mystery, and rebellious attitudes.
The body language of the band suggests confidence and authority, standing tall and seem to ignore the camera. the lead singer is also positioned in front of the other characters again suggesting authority.
This is a close up shot the artists eye line is in top thirds this gives him power and authority. It also gives direct direct address to the audience, this makes the reader feel more involved with the artist.
The colour scheme in this image is also interesting as the contrasting background this makes the character stand out, but also relates to the genre or music (rock) as it is portrayed a quite a unsubtle and unique. The mise-en-scene in this image is also interesting as the dark make-up use and dark clothing suggests quite a dark and sinister character.

This image is a mid close up, this is important because of the body language and props withing the image, the shot only containing this artist suggest he is the leas singe/guitarist. His eye line is also in the top third this suggest power and authority. the lack of eye contact with the camera suggests maybe a shy character. The colour scheme also relates to him being shy as he blends in with his surrounding. this may also suggest that he is comfortable within his surroundings, and the role of the leading artist. As the images seams to be a shot of him at a gig/concert it gives the reader a feeling of being closer to him preforming.
Looking at these images and analysing them have been useful for gaining images for my own magazine. They have a range of different elements such as mise-en-scene witch is important in each image, although they are portraying the same genre they are also showing different character aspects. This made me think about the Mise-en-scene for my composition. Body language is also important in these selected images again to show different character traits. This will be important in my inages as the different artist will have to show clearly different personalities to make the reader react to each one differently. Also the different colour schemes used are interesting, this made me think of how i would want my colour scheme and how this would help to show the feature artists. Overall these images have helped me to adapt my original ideas to be more effective and loo more professional.

The headline gives the reader exactly what the article is about, and who is featured within it. This article uses a more informative tone as it is giving the audience information rather than using a chatty tone. Although it uses a formal tone the article grabs the readers attention as it is an usual topic and helps to bring the artist and the reader closer. Fans of Josh would be most interested in this article as it is quite personal to him and his life.

Flat plan Rational
My front cover consists of a large image of my featuring artist, a mid close up shot. the colour scheme of my front page is purple and black. The masthead "rock-her" will also follow this colour scheme, this means it would be easy to locate my product on a shelf. My front page also consists of a list of sell lines down the left hand side, this would make the reader believe they were getting value for money by purchasing my magazine. The sell lines are accompanied be page numbers so the reader can locate the articles that would interest them most. The front page also features competitions that the reader would be eligible for by purchasing my magazine. My front cover will also feature freebies such as posters to entice the reader.
My contents page would consist of a list of upcoming gig that the reader may be interested in, it would also include a list of artists featured withing the magazine and accompanying page numbers. The colour scheme would match that of the front cover. Further details of competitions that the reader would be interested in would be shown at the bottom of the page. the contents page would need to look busy and it would be full of information to interest the reader and make it look as if they are getting value for money. My contents page also consists of a number of images of different artist this would appeal to the reader and attract their attention.
My double page spread would consist of a large image of the featured artist on the left hand side as this would be the first thing that gets the readers attention. It would also feature a shot paragraph about their current and up coming performances, the reason why i wouldn't feature a large block of text on the artist is that being a consumer of similar products and research into similar products have shown that a reader would become un-interested in the article and not complete reading it all. My double page spread would also feature smaller images of the artist at different gigs, this makes the reader feel as if they are close to the artist. I would also feature quotes form the artist about the gig making the reader feel as if the artist is speaking directly to them. Another key point would be the production process of the artists latest release, shown below the main article.
In conclusion, I feel that my magazine would be successful as there are no similar products that have a female only target audience.I also believe that my magazine would look professional as it would have a similar structure to published magazines on a relating topic.

Audience response power point
View more presentations from Paigenotpage.
The research onto my target audience has shown that a similar layout and coulour scheme for my magazine would be affective as it reflects the genre of the music included.
The images also used have shown to be affective by attracting the attention of the audience on numerous occasions.
A few people gave the same response to he front cover as it reflects the genre of music, through the colour scheme and layout. Therefor i think a similar layout and colours would be effective to attract my target audience

Audience Profile
Kerrang! Aim their music magazine at a target audience is . . .
Kerrang! is actually really young with a median age of 22. Having a younger profile is a big advantage as traditionally this age group is elusive (and expensive) to reach. As well as music releases this makes Kerrang! perfect for film and games, and also mobile technology and government messages.
readers are the heaviest music consumers purchasing over 6 albums per month on average (53% more than the national average) and 8 times more likely to spend over £200 a year on albums. The readers are also 5.5 times more likely to attend a rock gig.
My target audience, I am going to aim my music magazine at a target audience aged around 15-25 but mainly based towards females. As there is no Music/ rock magazines that focus on a female audience. I think that creating a magazine aimed at females will help to open up the rock genre as it is a male dominated, creating a magazine to help attract attention from a less mainstream audience.
Imagery such as this will help inspire my magazine content as house style as colour schemes would be slightly different, more pink/ purple. It would also have more content of up and coming female artists which is more appealing to females that may aspire to be like their favorite artists.

My Ideas. . .
I so far have decided to do a music magazine, based on rock and metal music. I plan to look at similar products such as Kerrang and NME magazines, to gain ideas of house styles and features within these magazines. I will also research other genres of magazines to show the differences in how the producers of the magazines try to cater for different target audiences.
